How to Use: Import Europass CV to your CV

Import Europass CV to your CV at the Comoto CV Manager

With our new integration to Europass it is possible to import Europass to your exisiting CV data from the Europass standard into Comoto using the Europass XML file.

Two ways to import Europass CV:

  1. Using the Comoto CV Import Wizard
  2. Using the CV list icon for importing

Both types of imports are going to use your existing Europass XML file, so you need to have that within reach, preferably existing on your Computer/USB stick, because you wil have to upload the Europass XML file to the Comoto CV Import Engine.

Import EuropassUsing the Comoto CV import Wizard

Please login to your Comoto account here, go to the menu My CV and choose “CV creation Wizard”.

After that you will activate our CV  Import Wizard, where you can for time being import your existing data from LinkedIn and Europass.

Import EuropassOur new and improved CV Import Wizard now contains the ability to import from LinkedIn and from Europass.

You should choose “Import from Europass XML File”, enter the name of your new Europass CV, choose the language you want for this CV and press “Next”.

Import EuropassA dialogue will pop-up asking you to upload your “Europass XML file”, select the Europass CV file you want to import and press “Next”.

Your existing data from the Europass CV which just have been uploaded will be converted into the Comoto CV standard and this would finalize the job of importing the Europass CV. This can be done within a minute, so you are saving a lot of time by doing it in this way.

The created CV/Resume will be a new CV on your CV list and will not change existing CV within Comoto.

The CV creation wizard can only be used to create a new CV not to update an existing CV, if you want to update or overwrite an existing Europass CV you should use the CV List import feature as described below.

Using the CV List for importing

If you want to import into an existing CV or update an existing CV you should login to Comoto as described above, and then choose “My CV” to see you existing list of CV/Resume.

You should then find the little “Yellow Europass Star Icon” (see arrow above). By pressing this icon you choose to import a new Europass CV into this CV, by doing this you should be aware that you will overwrite/delete your existing CV with the new data. After pressing this icon you will get the same pop-up image as in the CV Import Wizard and you should upload your Europass CV.

Your CV is probably the most important part of your application to get the job of your dreams. The cover letter will be the place where you convince the recruiter/headhunter/company to read on, and read your entire CV.

A very good idea will be to Tailor make every job application with a Tailor made CV, if you want the job of your dreams, the employer should also read a “dream of a CV”.

The basic principle of your CV is to Tailor make it to the job:

  • Be sure to cover the most important job skills, qualifications, and experience in your CV.
  • Be certain that most parts of your CV relates to the job you apply for.
  • Use the same skills, experience, and qualifications description as in the job ad.
  • Ensure that your previous experience is clearly and relevant to the job application.

This is a lot easier to do when using Comoto, you can have several CV in the system and specialize them to the current application.

You have the basic material available from your basic CV (maybe your LinkedIn profile), and then you should just adapt that material to the wishes to you dream job.

An Outline of the basics in a CV is seen below:

Professional Summary

The professional summary is the part where you describe your overall motivation. Here you should describe that the current job would fit into your career choice. This is should show the employer that this job is the next step on your career ladder.

Skills

Skills are mostly seen as keywords in a job add; they are essential criterias that you have to have to fill this position. It is not a question if you have them all, most people don’t or just barely, but you must include all the required skills as much as possible. Highlight the skills where your expertise really supersedes the demands highlighted and mention the rest.

Work Experience

Your former work experience needs particular care and you should try to reuse some of the skills or goals explained in the job ad. Explain you experience very concise and clear, write the roles and tasks you had. Be sure to use the same wordings as in the requirements for this job.

Use several examples, and where it is possible show how your skills where developed and refined through your previous work experience. Make it extremely clear that you have gained extra expertise through your previous experience.

Achieved goals

Goals that you have achieved on top of your work experience for each job description are extremely positive, it shows that you aim for the goals the employer puts up and that you are dedicated to the relevant tasks. Try to use examples that are related to the new job application if possible.

Educations / Qualifications

A lot of job ads describe a certain set of required qualifications. You should try to provide qualifications that meet these requirements. Sometimes you have similar qualifications, try to convince them that they are good enough. Either do it by email beforehand so that you are sure that your qualifications are good enough. This also gives you the opportunity to have a talk with the employer before you send your CV.

Your qualifications need to be direct and to the point, and if the employer describes them very details, you do the same. Make it look like you’re obviously qualified and the best choice for the job.

As described above it is not that hard to make your CV targeted to the job your applying for. Using Comoto to do this is very easily, you have the opportunity to have several distinct CVs and you can change them and have as many as you like in your portfolio. You can even make them online versions, so that you can refer to a link if you talk with an interesting person.

Principle behind and background for CV Comments feature:

As part of the CV creating and optimising process it is important that you get feedback on your CV data text in general and the latest changes or you might have a new draft version you would like to get some comment on. Of course, you can do that by sending email with a downloaded version (don’t know how to download your CV – go here) of your CV but you can also do it in a much more structured way and ask for comment via the Comoto Commenting system.

Hereby you also avoiding the risk of a having draft version of your CV floating around outside your control (notice at Comoto it takes a few clicks to delete a (draft) web profile or may you just want to hide it then it show a red dot at the right of the name). We know you can easily send the URL to the web profile you want to test (and feel free to do that) by why not ask for comments to your CV as some of the people you ask for this might be the same you ask for recommendations, a reference or to verify. How to use CV Comments:

First log in to the Comoto CV Manager application here

To be able to use the Comoto CV Commenting you need to have created a least one CV. You will then have to go to your web profiles like shown below.

Next step is to press the Web profile to open it – you do that by clicking the web profile and wait for it to open. Then evaluate the web profile – is it ready for comments?

As part of both Comoto’s fight against fraudulent information, omitted important information and dedicated lies in CVs and for your CV to stand out and also reduce your risk of having a CV being read with “skeptical eyes” we have added a Verify feature. Hereby you can emphasise which parts of your CVs that have been verified and by whom.

How to Use: Export Europass CV with Comoto CV Manager

Export Europass CV to your CV with Comoto CV Manager

With the ability to export into the Europass CV standard you are able to export any CV you have in Comoto to the Europass format as easy as point and click.

First you need to login here:

After your login you go to your CV List by pressing the “CV List” Menu, by doing that you go to the list of the CV’s you have in Comoto. Below you can see an example of the CV List.

Europass Export

By clicking the Export Icon, (see above) you will be shown the CV Export picture where you can choose which CV Template you want to use. Whether you want to exportE uropass it into Word Template or convert to a PDF Template. But as a new feature, at the bottom you will see”Export CV’s to an Europass XML File”

To start the actual Europass CV export, you just press the designated button “1” and it will even light up when you hover over it. So you cant miss it. 🙂

After the Europass export

After you have done the Europass CV Export you will see that there is a new line in the middle, here you will have your Europass CV/Resumes and you can either delete them by pressing the waste bin next to it or you can download the XML file for you to keep or to send it via an email.

Europass CV/Resume editing

We have made it possible for you to import the Europass CV you have just exported directly into the official Europass editor, you can do this by pressing “Edit with Europass”, we will automatically upload your newly created Europass CV to the official Europass editor.

You want to have specialised or as we call it targeted CV for each job you apply for and with our multiple CV’s feature you are able to do that fast and easy.

We have implemented a feature called multiple CV’s.
With this feature you can have as many CV’s as you want and notice you can choose to make them inherit or not inherit from each other (we also call this a clone). When inherited – if you change the “top” CV of a group of inherited CV they all change – smart ! (example – at the drawing above – if the you in the Michael Comoto (Renewables) CV change a date  both the German and the Danish version same date is also changed).

If you want to have another CV version that are not inherited/linked to other CV’s then make a non inherit version (we also call this a copy). It could also be a CV in another language – even smarter!

For each CV you can choose Template (and preview before you choose).

Hereby you only need change what is necessary to have tailormade CV’s for the job application you need just right now – and we have saved you a lot of time and efforts !

Notice your CV versions are all saved in your portfolio of CV’s and you can use them as you like.

Target CV to the job you want – and get it!

Your CV is probably the most important part of your application to get the job of your dreams. The cover letter will be the place where you convince the recruiter/headhunter/company to read on, and read your entire CV.

A very good idea will be to target every job application with a tailor-made target CV, if you want the job of your dreams, the employer should also read a “dream of a CV”.

The basic principle of your CV is to target it to the job:

  • Be sure to cover the most important job skills, qualifications, and experience in your CV.
  • Be certain that most parts of your CV relates to the job you apply for.
  • Use the same skills, experience, and qualifications description as in the job ad.
  • Ensure that your previous experience is clearly and relevant to the job application.

This is a lot easier to do when using Comoto, you can have several CV in the system and specialize them to the current application.

You have the basic material available from your basic CV (maybe your LinkedIn profile), and then you should just adapt that material to the wishes to you dream job.

Professional Summary

The prof. summary is the part where you describe your overall motivation. Here you should describe that the current job would fit into your career choice. This is should show the employer that this job is the next step on your career ladder.

Skills

Skills are mostly seen as keywords in a job add; they are essential criteria’s that you have to have to fill this position. It is not a question if you have them all, most people don’t or just barely, but you must include all the required skills as much as possible. Highlight the skills where your expertise really supersedes the demands highlighted and mention the rest.

Work Experience

Your former work experience needs particular care and you should try to reuse some of the skills or goals explained in the job ad. Explain you experience very concise and clear, write the roles and tasks you had. Be sure to use the same wordings as in the requirements for this job.

Use several examples, and where it is possible show how your skills where developed and refined through your previous work experience. Make it extremely clear that you have gained extra expertise through your previous experience.

Achieved goals

Goals that you have achieved on top of your work experience for each job description are extremely positive, it shows that you aim for the goals the employer puts up and that you are dedicated to the relevant tasks. Try to use examples that are related to the new job application if possible.

Educations / Qualifications

A lot of job ads describe a certain set of required qualifications. You should try to provide qualifications that meet these requirements. Sometimes you have similar qualifications, try to convince them that they are good enough. Either do it by email beforehand so that you are sure that your qualifications are good enough. This also gives you the opportunity to have a talk with the employer before you send your CV.

Your qualifications need to be direct and to the point, and if the employer describes them very details, you do the same. Make it look like you’re obviously qualified and the best choice for the job.

As described above it is not that hard to make your CV targeted to the job your applying for. You can even make them online versions, so that you can refer to a link if you talk with an interesting person.

Seeking a new job is not just about sending the usual and standard CV you made ages ago – most of the time it requires an evaluation and maybe a Curriculum Vitae created/build especially for that particular job opening.

How to Use: Export EURES CV in Europass format for import in Comoto

It is fairly easy to export EURES CV into the Europass format, and then import this into Comoto and thus create/build your CV in less than a minute.

Please go to the EURES Login Webpage here. Enter your username and password to proceed to MY EURES. After the login you will see a menu on the left-hand side like the picture to the left. Please press the + sign at “My CV” and you will open another menu with some new items in it. In this menu under “Manage my CV”  please select “Download as Europass CV”. After you have done this a new page comes up looking like the one below.

Here you simply choose the language you want to export – if have more than one – and please choose the CV Format as Europass XML. By pressing  “Download” you should be able to save it on your computer, this file you will later use to upload to Comoto to create your new Comoto account. Export EURES CVsFor importing this Europass CV into Comoto please see the How To here.

Europass integrationEuropass was developed by the European Union to have one standard CV format with all the necessary information for it to be used in all EU member states. As this EU CV standard ensures the same visual look and feel and the same content structure the use of the Europass CV is increasing every day.

The website for Europass created 3.8 million CV’s last year, but please notice that on the Europass site you only create your Europass CV, but not save the CV data you have entered. If you want to change your CV data you have to upload your Europass CV again and make the changes and then download it again to your file for further use.
